Therapy Groups: Managing Big Feelings & Little Bodies

Children experience a wide range of feelings throughout development. These feelings can be difficult to navigate. We recognize that a child’s unique sensory profile plays an active role in emotional development.

We will explore feelings and emotions through a variety of sensory experiences. We will move through big and small emotions as we provide each child with coping strategies while building confidence.

We also recognize that each child’s unique sensory system plays a vital role in attention, regulation and academic skills. Often times, children have difficulty processing all the sensory input in their school, home or extracurricular environment leading to difficulty with attention, friendships and impulsivity.

We will provide Occupational Therapist lead groups to children ages 2.5-10 engaging the necessary tools for their unique sensory system to maintain a regulated state of arousal and actively participate in school and extracurricular activities. We run multiple regulation groups throughout the week. Each group is individualized to its members and will focus on improving your child’s sensory and emotional regulation, friendship skills, and attention!

Topics include:

  • Transitions

  • Impulsivity

  • Friendship Skills

  • Attention

  • Winning and Losing

  • Team work & Collaboration

  • Regulation

  • Sensory Processing (under and over sensitive

  • Flexibility and rigidity

Play 2 Progress groups provide a unique environment where children are carefully matched with peers who will encourage them to reach the next level of success together. Our team will work closely with you to determine the best placement for your child. We can't wait to play!

Joining a group and our current group schedule:

Children that are new to P2P are assessed for group placement either by completing a formal consult/evaluation or by completing a 30 minute "playdate" with one of our Occupational Therapists. Our groups are play based and use play as the cornerstone on which to build skills. The "playdate" allows us to asses how your child plays and what skills would be beneficial to work on. From there we will offer you a recommendation and scheduling options.

Current P2P children should speak to their provider to discuss placement and which therapeutic option would best fit their child.
